Founded in 1890 by Army Major Charles T. Gray, Grayton Beach is South Walton’s original beach neighborhood, known for its eclectic vibe, colorful personalities and laidback lifestyles. It is Bohemian mix of residents that are conservative in protecting the dune lake and state park that surround this small beach community. The Red Bar recently destroyed by a fire vows to rebuild and return to the iconic status it has become. Charter fishing boats launch directly from the beach here at Grayton Beach State Park, which is managed by Walton County. Residents are allowed to drive on the beach here if they have a beach permit.
